Episode 71: Put Yourself In The Role Of The Horse
How are you doing? Before you answer that question, I’d like you to pretend that you are a horse. What’s the first image that comes to mind? An Arabian? A racehorse? An overworked driving horse?
During this podcast, I share with you my idea that maybe it is helpful if we view our situations from a slightly different angle.
It is also interesting to sometimes use the horse training techniques on OURSELVES.
Are you rocking the teeter-totter?
Are you working the emotional AND physical cycles?
Where are you getting your release from pressure?
What other lessons could you bring to your life that you see with horses?

So glad I found this video. Pawing is truly so hard to work through. I bought a horse that is incessant about it. (So they hobble her (a bandaid)), which seems worse. I try to give her assurance, that I’m not leaving her (to stand alone for 8 hours) - rather I’m close by and busy. Just a bit of eye contact is helping her. But I doubt she’ll ever quit.

I’m new to WD - and curious. In a show setting, will they ask for a loose rein? Or is it (generally speaking) always riding with some contact - of the bit?

Thank you for sharing, I have a Tb mare that is extremely buddy sour, she gets very insecure as soon as she leaves the pasture, she's difficult to trailer (ie it takes 20minutes to get her to load usually), she paws, cries/whinny, and moves around a lot when tied. Do you have any advice for improving her confidence/independence and "curing" her herdbound behavior? Thank you in advance, I enjoy all of your volgs and podcats.

Duns are a grayish white roan. Most buckskins usually have a black stripe down their back and 4 black socks up to their knee and they’re more of a golden honey tan than pale. Much more beautiful than a dun in my opinion. I love that black vertical stripe down their backs they’re one of the only few breeds that have it naturally. Very distinguishing and handsome on a saddle horse

The video of you doing this ride in your wedding dress gave me chills and I had tears streaming down my face. I didn’t know who you were before I found that video of you while watching some reining videos, but every since that day, I’ve been soaking in all the knowledge I could to help my daughter get to where you’re at! I’m past my prime but my daughter just rode bridleless in a local show for the first time and I’m so proud of her! She’s only 14 and she’s such an excellent young horsewoman. We’re blessed to have a horse, Waylon, that takes such good care of her. They have quite the bond. I love your podcast and one day, I’ll get the full course! For now, I’m teaching my daughter everything I can from your awesome videos and podcasts. Thank you! You’ve been my biggest inspiration and RIP Roxy. You two were pure magic.
